Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy

Vanathi Pathippagam (2003 edition)

The series comprising of five volumes, and over 2000 pages, translates to 'The Son of Ponni'. It depicts the early days of Arulmozhivarman who went on to become the great Chola emperor, Rajaraja Chola I. The book continues to be admired and garner critical acclaim for its tightly woven plot, vivid narration, the wit of the dialogue, and the portrayal of power struggles and intrigues.


Nandhipurathu Nayagi by Vikiraman

Written by Subarayar Vembu under a pseudonym, this novel is a sequel to his better-known contemporary and mentor Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan.
