Considered as the greatest poet of Odia Literature, this seventeenth century poet was awarded the title 'Kabi-Samrata', or 'The Emperor of Poets'. This particular Kavya, or poem, begins every line with 'Ka'.

This work by Ratha, who was given the title 'Kavi Surya', or 'The Sun among Poets', is noted for its emotional quotient as well as its role in enforcing the Riti school of Sanskrit literature.


Poems by Salabega
Translated as White Whispers: Selected Poems of Salabega by Niranjan Mohanty

Salabega, a seventeenth century poet, wrote poetry in praise of Lord Jagannath, an avatar of Krishna. Whole most of his work narrates the relationship between Krishna and the gopis, particularly Radha, a few are also are inspired by the 'Vatsalya Ras', that relates to Yashoda's maternal love.

Translated as Banamali Das (Makers of Indian Literature) by Janaki Ballabha Mohanty

Considered as the foremost poet of the medieval Odia Bhakti literature, his poems are usually eyewitness accounts, and their simple, rustic language is much appreciated.
