Tyagpatra by Jainendra Kumar
Translated as The Resignation by Ajneya 

(2015 edition)

Written by a Sahtiya Akademi Award winning author, the novel revolves around a lawyer’s relationship with his bua (paternal aunt). Through the narrator's eyes, we see her struggles, and her bold, and at times desperate, decisions that compel the lawyer to hand in his resignation. It is truly a great satirical work that gives women agency (from theBetterIndia).


Padchaap by Rajni Tilak

(2000)

Padchaap, which literally means ‘Marching Steps’ is one of Tilak’s two poetry collections. She was one of the most prominent Dalit rights activists as well as a leading voice of Dalit feminist writing, associated with the writers’ collective Dalit Lekhak Sangh. In fact, she compiled and edited two volumes of Dalit women’s writing.


Apne Samne by Kunwar Narayan

Rajkamal Prakashan (1979)

A collection of poetry from arguably the leading poet of Hindi literature, and a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Jnanpith Award. He read and travelled widely and wrote for six decades. Linked to the New Poetry movement, he has written many epic poems and works of criticism.


Sab Ki Awaaz Ke Parde Mein by Vishnu Khare

Radhakrishnan Prakashan (2019 edition)

This is a collection of poetry. Khare was a poet, translator, literary and film critic, journalist and scriptwriter. He served as the Programme Secretary of Sahitya Akademi and as the Editor of the Hindi daily “Navbharat Times" in Lucknow, Jaipur and New Delhi.


Panch Aangnon Walla Ghar by Govind Mishra

This novel, spread over fifty years, tells the story of the movement of a house with five verandas that is actually the tale of three generations. Over the years, Mishra has written eleven novels, fourteen short story collections, five travelogues, five literary essays collection, a poem collection and two story books for children. He has been awarded the most prestigious Hindi awards namely Vyas Samman and Sahitya Akademi Award.
