The Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel is a satirical take on the everyday life in a small village, encompassing everything from cardamom plants to communal riots.


Subbanna by Masti Venkatesh Iyengar

The novel is a bildungsroman centred around Subbanna who follows his passion for music against the will of his father, a highly respected scholar in the royal court of Mysuru.


Katheyaadalu Hudugi by Yashwant V. Chittal 

Prism Publications (2009 edition)

This is a short story collection that won the Sahitya Akademi Award. Writer-critic G. S. Amur said of Chittal's stories: "Many of them were outstanding, and came with his distinct touch. The kind of experimentation he did with language, style and narrative is unparalleled."
