Iyaruingam by Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya

Katha (2002 edition)

One of Bhattacharya's most successful novels, it depicts the suffering of the Naga tribes in the aftermath of the second world war. The author also went on to become the first Assamese to win the Jnanpith Award.


Sandhiyar Sur by Nalinibala Devi 

Lawyer's Book Stall (2015 edition)

This is the poet's debut collection whose title can be translated as evening melody. She came to be known for nationalistic as well as mystical poetry, often drawing on the suffering in her own life.


Mamare Dhara Tarowal Aru Dukhan Upanyas by Mamoni Roysom Goswami 

Chandra Prakash (2015 edition)

Written by Indira Goswami under a nom de plume, the Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel, roughly titled the rusted sword in translation, revolves around a strike by a group of labourers in Uttar Pradesh.

Translated as Madhupur Bahudur and Other Stories by Jyotirmoy Prodhani

Assam Book Trust

Rebati Mohan Dutta Choudhury, popularly known as Sheelabhadra, wrote many novels and short story collections. This particular collection won the Sahitya Akademi Award.


Deo Langkhui by Rita Chowdhury

Jyoti Prakashan (2015 edition)

This epic novel portrays the lifestyle of then-contemporary Tiwa society. The Tiwa is an ethnic group mainly inhabiting the states of Assam and Meghalaya. The title can be understood as the divine sword.
